Owning a blog can be an exciting thing. It can be even more exciting when you start to see lots of new website visitors come in.

And WordPress is the perfect blogging system (in my opinion) for getting new visitors via free search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

BUT, not all blog owners using WordPress, or any blog platform, are doing well in the search engines.

This could be for a lot reason…

  • No blog marketing or promotion at all
  • No one linking back to them
  • Not posting to their blog enough
  • Using old and duplicate content

The list goes on and on.

But one of the main things keeping people out of the search engines is keywords.

Yup, keywords.

If you want to start getting some good search engine rankings and increase blog traffic, you need to do a little keyword research when you write your blog posts and try to fit the best keywords into your post and title.

It’s an important part of building blog traffic, and one most bloggers over look.

And the weird thing is, it’s not really that hard to do either. It might sound like a lot of work, but it doesn’t have to be.

When most people think of getting keywords for anything, they think of using some complicated program and having to know all sorts of information and blah, blah.

It’s not that hard – really!

All you need is a basic, bare bones keyword tool to pull up some keywords and you’re good to go.

As a matter of fact, here’s a free tool for you, on me :-)

Once you have a basic keyword tool, you just do a quick search and you have a list of keywords to choose from.

So, if you where doing a blog post on “Quilting”, you would open the keyword tool and do a search on “Quilting”. The tool will then give you a bunch of keywords on that topic that you can choose from.

Then you just go through the keywords and pick a few that fit your new post well, and try to fit those keywords into your post content.

Make sure your post makes sense though!!

But if you can get them into your post, you’re on the right track.

Now, see if your can fit one or two of the keywords into your blog post title (making sure it makes sense of course).

If you have a SEO WordPress plugin, add the keywords to the plugin for that post.

Use those same keywords as that post tags.

That’s it, you’re golden :-)

By doing this you’re making sure you have the keywords you know people are searching for in your posts, which will help with getting more blog traffic.

Remember, owning a blog is great, fun and even something a lot of people find to be calming. But, if your blog doesn’t get any traffic it’s not doing anything for you at all.

Start adding keywords to your blog posts, titles and tags and you’re going to see a nice increase in blog visitors and search engine traffic.

Thank you so much for this, so so helpful! Keywords are getting harder and harder these days so getting some good long-tail ones never hurts.
